Welcome to Sarnia Alpacas!

We are located in the rolling hills of the beautiful Redwood valley in Nelson on 7.5 acres. At present we  have 24 Alpacas which include 9 breeding females and  3 stud boys.

We established ourselves in 2003 after visiting our local A&P show, and fell in love with these wonderful easy going animals. Ever since then we were hooked.

We bought 3 pregnant mums – 1 dark brown, 1 medium brown, and 1 white. We waited to see which direction we were going to go, and after the excitement of our first cria we decided that that would be in the direction of the coloured alpaca. Blacks and Greys are our goal and to concentrate on breeding fine dense animals with good strong conformation.

Our Alpacas are now in the breeding phase. At the beginning of 2010 we had two wonderful  stud males coming through , Sarnia Vazon who is a well conformed, silver grey boy, with lots of density in his fibre  and also a gorgeous black male, Sarnia Albecq  who again is a very proud looking boy with a wonderful crimp style. Both of these boys are winners of broad ribbons and have excellent genetics behind them.  Also we are enjoying our  exciting partnership with  Kate Mander (Pejo Alpacas) with the super black male, Pejo Strongman and are delighted to see his progeny coming through.(Check out the photo gallery to see some of his cria).  Strongman is also being  offered for a limited time  for stud services either  on farm or mobile matings within the Nelson region.

Strongman tends to throw towards the dams colour and is improving the density, crimp style, lustre in the  fibre and also putting in solid bone structure giving all his cria a strong frame.

We were extremely pleased with this seasons cria, who are all showing promising signs of great fleeces which will make the forth coming show season really exciting.

Simon has recently qualified as an accredited  New Zealand Alpaca judge, both in fleece and breed.
